I just found something that may solve all our spam woes. MediaWiki has an extension known as Extension:SpamBlacklist that will prevent edits that contain certain URLs. I am compiling a list of URLs that our two unfriendly neighborhood SpammerFiends use frequently and if the spam blacklist where implemented, I could add them to the blacklist and poof! our spam is gone!
Well at least from one of our spammers. It uses a bot that spews nonsense and has plenty of other unmoderated forums and wikis to vandalize, so it will probably go the lazy route and quit vandalizing ours. The other spammer I am not sure of but I am sure that it has plenty of other outlets for its spam as well.
If editing the blacklist requires admin access, I wouldn't be opposed to maintaining the list. :D
